Your options for making a custom saddle pads are endless! There are so many amazing fabrics out today. 

I try to buy the heavier fabrics, usually located in the home decor or upholstery fabrics. I purchased the pattern through SuitAbilty Patterns. I made my pattern larger than theirs. I quilt the fabric myself by adding batting and a stabilizer between all the layers. My method will  make a plush and sturdy saddle pad, however, you sewing machine ( I have a Husqvarna )may struggle with the thickness.
